Ok, I'm late on reading this monster of a thread (56 pages!), but entertaining so far. Here's a couple I had over the weekend, not the worst (those I'm sure have been put to pasture by my memory) but still noteworthy.

Saturday: A couple guildies need help with Ring of Fire, so I log in as my Monk, because it's easier to get in / form a party when you're a Monk (go figger THAT one). So, we get it together, and I'm the leader, choosing people as I see fit to our needs. Actually, the other Monk was a guildie too, I remember, so you can imagine the number of blind invites we were getting. Anyways, on the local channel I see a "Mesmer LFG." Now I hear all the time how mesmers get no love, so I pick him up. knowing it would probably be hard for him to get into a group. Little did I know his favorite 4 letter combination was "stfu". Well, we get through the mission fairly well, even though nobody wants to lead. I know the mission, having done it with 3 different characters, but hell, I'm the Monk, I'm supposed to stay in the back. Regardless, I often had to call targets and even pull with my Holy Rod. Occasionally the Mesmer would commment or speak to someone and always preclude it with "stfu." Ugh. Anyway, we get to the fortress and my lowly healer had to go pull the Mursaat and Jades back so we could kill them, then we took out the outer Towers and opened the gate. Of course some more Mursaat come rushing out, and I tell everyone to pull back so we don't have to fight inside the energy draining field. So Mr. Smartass replies to that, "why don't you just stfu and heal." Oh, NO he didn't. I immediately said, "bye," and turned around and walked away. Everyone asked what I was doing, I said "I don't need this mission, I am not going to be talked to like that." Of course Asshat says he didn't need it either. Funny he didn't ever drop, though... The only reason I stayed was to help my 2 guild mates, any other time I'd just say screw it and find something else to do. Out of boredom, I walked all the way back to the start of the mission . But I was still watching the health bars as I loafed around. I waited till they started to drop considerably before I went back, hoping they'd all be dead by then. Then I could rez everybody except Assmonkey and go finish this mission. Well, the other Monk managed to save the day before everybody else bit the bullet. But, I was determined to get my revenge. I typed in guild chat for my partner not to heal that fool at all, under any circumstances. So after I caught back up, I again took the lead and started pulling, except fromt his point on, I'd aggro Jades and Mursaat and immediately run behind the Mesmer with my new friends in tow. That fool got the SNOT beat out of him, and we would not heal him at all. After he was dead, we'd kill the mob, rez his fool ass, and then I'd do the exact same thing with the next mob. We did it that way for the rest of the mission; I know I got him killed at least 5 times. Believe it or not, he never said a solitary word to anyone the rest of the way. Sometimes it's easier to put someone in their place with actions instead of words. The rest of the group was amused and appreciative. The mesmer promptly left the group as soon as we zoned into Abaddon's. I pity whomever had to deal with him next.

Sunday: I'm taking my Ranger on a Barrage/Pet ToPK run. We're doing extremely well, making excellent time... We get to the 4th floor, Hall of Heroes, and get in our groove, taking on 2 of the roving mobs, and we notice that one of the Rangers isn't doing anything, just still standing at our spawn point. We left one roving mob and went down to kill the worms. Afterwards, we notice that the one guy has STILL not moved. Everyone's asking if he was afk or not. I pull up the chat history, and he didn't announce being afk. The group leader asked what was up, and he just replied, "ah" and nothing else, so he WAS there. I knew right then he was a lamer, and planned to rush in as we killed the darknesses at the end and get his drops without doing any work. Oh, SCREW THAT, I thought. I told the rest of the group to stay put. As they said in Batman, "always mind your surroundings..." I ran up, aggroed the roving mob with my flatbow, ran right next to this asswipe until he was in their aggro, then walked away. Needless to say he was dead in about 5 seconds. We came back up as a group to kill the enemies, and I said quite flatly, "Do NOT rez this fool. If you rez him, I'm dropping." All of a sudden he was livid, whereas in the past 10 minutes he had nothing to say. "I was afk! I was on the phone! I'm gonna help!" Yeah, whatever. even the group leader didn't buy his BS. "Who gets a 20-minute phone call at 3 in the morning?" he asked. Heh. So we went on without him. Interestingly enough, he didn't leave, even though it was clear we were going to leave him there. Once we were almost done, he had the nerve to say, "I'll still get my greens, and you won't be able to pick them up." I knew better, but it was out leader who told him the facts: "You're too far away, so nothing will drop for you." Still he stayed, I guess not accepting the truth as fact. So we finished up the level, got our loot, rubbed it in his face that he was left out, and then he quit. I told the rest of the group that punishing that lamer fool was in itself worth the price of admission.

So I got to turn 2 of my bad experiences around. One thing about immature losers, they can act stupid and be loudmouthed and rude, but they have no learned way to deal with being humbled and humiliated.

so... i'm finally trying PvP. With my guildies, we do team arenas and have competed in GvG. It's going well. I try out variations to my build in Random Arenas now.

Tonight I have had the most frustrating experiences ever:

1) We wipe out 3 of 4 - the last remaining is the monk. I notice, Prot Spirit and Healing Breeze... and it dawns on me that my SS on him is doing 4 dmg... he's a 55 monk. WTF? He didn't heal his team (obviously), and he can't kill us. Weirdly - no one had any degen, interrupts, vampiric anything or enchant shatters. We chased him around for 15 minutes. What is the point of doing that?? I asked him - he said he did this every day because it's funny.

2) 1st random arena group: guy on my team says his brother keeps disconnecting his net. he leaves. 4 v 3 and we lose. Next group, same guy is on my team. He says in local chat: OMG! My windows were just shot out in a drive by shooting, I have to call the cops! and leaves. 4 v 2 (someone else got upset and left). Next group Leaver is on the OTHER team and says in local chat: My house was just hit by lightning, and leaves. few teams later, he's on my team again. He spams that something is on fire, he has to go: leaves again.

All before the rounds started. I took screen shots and reported him (like that does any good).

I PMd to ask him to stop screwing around since he seems to always pair up against me or with me. He claimed that I had the wrong guy (i clicked his name from the chat window), that I was lying, that he fixed his net so he wouldn't leave, that he never left any team, that he never played in random arenas, that I am harrassing him. Please note, i sent one PM asking him to stop. Well, I PMd again saying that i felt bad that he had his windows shot out, got struck by lightning, has a mean little brother, and that his house was on fire - all within 30 minutes.

*beats head against wall*

PvP was daunting enough to me... I didn't need this crap. Some people need to find more to do then screw around in arenas.

Urgh... and I bet it's reasons like that tale that we don't get much love

When I saw your second story I wasn't sure, you can't know the other guy's timezone (unless he told you) since I play from +13 EST on America... his attitude wasn't great, but after being denied all the loot after putting in effort, I wouldn't be any better.

If a jerk acts like a jerk right from the start, there is no reason to waste playing time with him/her. Kick the jerk or leave the jerk's party and have a better time playing GW.

yer, don't waste valuable play time with these jerks...

on the other hand I don't like why alot ppl turn chat off, really I don't get why... if some ppl are saying stupid things just ignore them but turning chat off eliminates a huge part of the game imo

Thats just my oppinion

A lot of people put up with jerks because they worry they wont be able to replace the spot.

And last time I checked /ignore only works for whispers, meaning you still have to see people spamming in local. If you have a good guild, you can easily turn off local chat and not miss out on a single thing in the game.

well

1) with ignore them I don't mean put them all on ignore list, just let them talk, don't react to it

2) I got a good guild with alot ppl online, but the gaming experience for me is not only to play with friends but also to meet with ppl you've never talked to. I've met alot of jerks but on the other hand I've also met very nice ppl and still talking to them when I am online. I wouldn't have met these ppl if I put chat off... imo thats a big part of an MMORPG or how you wanna call it.

Not so much a story, more of an observation.

IMO anyone who uses the phrase noob or any variety of the term in a derogatory manner should be banned for 1hour, increasing if the constantly use it (ie: 1st offence 1 hour, 2nd 2hours). Everyone seems to forget that they were once a noob.

For example:

I am a lvl 19 E/Mo just got to the wilds (i like killing EVERYTHING in an area & exploring everywhere)
Now when I get to the desert I will be considered a noob in that area coz i don't know it at all.

So instead of a bit of guidance Mr. Jerk and his mates will slag me off if I show any hint of not knowing 100% of the area (even 100% might not be enough for them).

Everyone, at one time, was new to the game.

Not everyone was completely retarded.

Perhaps i'm the jerk in this one, but still pretty funny ... we'll abbreviate jerk's name as "Jrk". This was in, of course, Drok's dist 1 (local chat, not trade channel)

Jrk: WTS Victo's axe, whisper me!!!!1
Jrk: WTS Victo's axe, whisper me!!!!2
Jrk: WTS Victo's axe, whisper me!!!!3
Jrk: WTS Victo's axe, whisper me!!!!4
Jrk: WTS Victo's axe, whisper me!!!!5
Jrk: WTS Victo's axe, whisper me!!!!6
...abbreviated, he got up to about 20 something ... all rapid-fire like.

Me: Gee, I wonder if anyone is selling Victo's axe ... boy I'd sure like to buy it ...

Jrk(whisper): Hey, i'm selling Victo's axe!
Me(whisper): NO WAY!!!!
Jrk(whisper): Yeah, seriously ... dont u have ur local chat on?!?
me(whisper): .... -.-
Jrk(whisper): So do you want to buy it?
Jrk(whisper): want to buy it?
(same as above, quite a few more times)

Is sarcasm lost on jerks? I'd say so

That creatively decorated character was not the jerk in that scene.

I feel like I have been the jerk myself just a few days ago. Due to a very hiccuppy internet connection I lagged out of two missions leaving my teammates to themselves. I really can't stand leavers myself so I felt really bad about that.

yesterday I was at THK about to help with the mission when a monk said he was selling complete green earth set. I PM him to see and do so. He puts up galigords wand and scroll and a green pilum. He's only asking 8k so I say k. He then pulls out the pilum so i say 7k. He tells me to hurry up and i tell him 7k. He calls me a noob! huh? Then he goes on to say he hates noobs and this and that. it was still a good deal but i don't buy from immature 16 year olds. Noob wow that was the first time i was called that.

Aside from the usual perils of PUGS who dont know what they are doin, freeloaders in missions, and 55 monks hitching a ride to UW/FoW, id managed to avoid the downright rude and abusive, until today.

I had just got my fourth character to the desert, a ranger. I have finished the story with 2 of my others, capping elites now, and am at THK with my other, so naturally i breeze through all the missions with no bonuses, and only doin the skill quests. Prob is im only lvl 17 when i get there. NP, i think, plenty of other people seem to have done the same.

"Who's for augury rock? invite urself, near henches" i say in local, and immediately get 3 invites from people ranging from lvl 14 to lvl 17, and one from a lvl 20 ranger (our resident idiot). We start discussing the mission, i do my usual PUG bonding with friendly questions ("where u from dude?", "this ur first char?", etc). until mr asshat pipes up;

Jerk: Lol, all noobs.
Me: not really, this my fourth char, just breezing through to the good bit
Friendly1: yeah, me too.
Jerk: u all noobs, u cant even get to lvl 20 b4 amnoon! LOL!! LMAO! ROFL!!!!!
Me: (thinking about just booting him now) wont take long to lvl up here, plenty of xp to be had.
Jerk: Whatever, u f**kin noobs, ull get assraped
Me: bye
<I hit the kick button>
Friendly2: What an asshole.
<PM> Jerk: u bitch noob, u kicked a 20 lvl?! u all die, f**kin noob! f**kin northern dickhead <assuming he'd read that i was from northern england from my chat with the others, i assume he wasn't!>
I **ignore** him. my first one, so sad.

I must add tho that the group i got were all great fun, and we had a great laugh gettin to augury. All are on friends list

I'm in FoW tonight with a half decent PUG and a warrior that actually knew what mark of pain and SS does. (Amazing isn't it? I didn't know they existed either.) So we're on our way to killing the first Nuker group when I notice that one of the Monk/Wars was doing an aweful lot of tanking and not a lot of dying(or healing for that matter). I soon realized that he was a 55 hp monk hopping along for the ride and not helping the team. In these very rare cases I'm glad I came prepared with an anti-jerk skill.

*casts Vital Blessing*

The guy dies in about 2 seconds on the next group and proceeds to yell at the group for being bad and not knowing how to do FoW etc...

I guess I was a jerk because I ruined his fun.

I have a very low tolerance for this sort of stuff. I haven't done much Hero's ascent since release, so I decided to get my 180 fame. I was at 177 or something running an IWAY trapper (apologies to all, but I just needed 3 quick fame). I talked my way into a rank three group and told them that I should hit rank three on the run. I jump on vent and listen to these guys.

I announce that I am going to trap the bridge on the Underworld map. I run and start laying traps on the bridge with the other ranger. The group leader starts going nuts about noob trapper and how "the idiot" (me) claimed he was going to get rank three this run over vent. I have my noob moments, especially late in the evening, but being a jerk over vent just insulting. Trying to build a rank 3 IWAY without knowledge of the most basic IWAY tactics is kind of lame.

I am currently on the avoid IWAY diet for this reason. You meet nicer people when you take the time to run something balanced which requires communication.
